2026-2027 PTA Board Candidates

Secretary Candidate:
Kelly Richey

Picture

My name is Kelly Richey, and I have two young boys - William, who is 8 years old and in 2nd Grade, and Logan, who is 4 years old and will be going to Freedom Elementary in the fall of 2027. My family moved to Sykesville/Eldersburg in late 2021, but our immediate families have lived in Maryland all our lives (Montgomery/Carroll Counties). My husband and I both work for an autonomous robotics company, with me primarily working in quality and compliance (exhilarating). I spend most of my time reading and organizing documentation so when the call went out for PTA Secretary, I thought my experience might lend itself into that role.

I would like to be part of the board because I value the connection between parents and educators in providing the best learning environment for our kids, and having a fully staffed and motivated PTA is key to that. I did a minor in elementary education in college and saw how active parental involvement improved kids' experiences at school. If I can help by being secretary, I am more than happy to do so!

Treasurer Candidate:
Bonny Mancuso

I've lived in Carroll County since 2016, and I have five children -- a sophomore at Towson University, a sophomore at Liberty, 4th and 3rd graders at Freedom, and a 1st grader in the Success Program at Winfield.

I am passionate about finally being able to give back to this community that has supported my children through their school careers now that things have settled into a good routine for us! Freedom elementary has always felt like more than just an elementary school, but rather a community embracing all of our children, their backgrounds, and diversity. I hope to have the opportunity to contribute to this continuing warm and welcoming culture as a new potential board member!

These nominations were made by an impartial nominating committee in accordance with PTA procedures.
We are grateful to both nominees for their willingness to serve our school community.

Elections will be held at our final PTA meeting on Thursday, June 11th at 6:30 PM.
PTA meetings are open to all Freedom families, but please remember that only active PTA members have voting rights.
